It can be tough to find quality aquatic plants for your garden center, nursery or landscape projects, especially when you have so many other things to worry about.
You want to stand out from the crowd.
You want to be the destination location that your customers crave.
What if you had a partner in your mission? What if that partner just happened to include a world renowned expert on aquatic plants? An author of multiple books? An experienced team of growers and shippers?
After being in the industry for almost 30 years, that was the question we asked.
Nature and flowers have fascinated Kelly ever since she was a child learning to identify plants during long walks in the woods. This passion has blossomed into a more than 30-year career in the wholesale water gardening trade.
Kelly has gained a reputation as one of the top experts in the industry, landing speaking engagements everywhere from Pennsylvania’s Longwood Gardens to China’s lotus festivals, and participating in research projects with organizations like the U.S. Department of Agriculture and University of Maryland. She has also co-authored two books – “The Lotus: Know It and Grow It” and “The Water Gardener’s Bible” – and regularly writes for trade magazines like Pond Trade and Ponds USA.
Known for her exuberance and attention to detail, Kelly specializes in a process she calls denitrification through beautification: making stunning water gardens by understanding plants’ natural abilities to improve the health of their aquatic environments. Her clients have included major gardening and architecture firms like Anthony Archer-Wills LLC; David B. Duensing & Associates; David S. Brown Enterprises; and Oehme, van Sweden & Associates.
In addition to her work at Splash Plants, Kelly serves on the board of the International Waterlily and Water Gardening Society and runs her own consulting business, Water Becomes a Garden.
Mark and Becky Willoughby
Mark and Becky started designing and installing relaxing, eco-friendly landscapes across York County, Pennsylvania in 1989. Their business – Splash Supply Company – has grown exponentially over the past three decades.
The Willoughbys now own and operate the largest pond and waterfall design garden and retail store in the region and design custom water features for everyone from homeowners to businesses. While most of their projects keep them close to their roots in southcentral Pennsylvania, the Splash team’s expertise has led them to projects in locales as far away as Ireland, Mexico, Disney’s Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival and the Omaha Zoo.
Splash Supply is no stranger to the national spotlight, having appeared on home makeover show “Junk’d” and in the magazine “Water Shapes.” The team has also worked with the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, helping them design and install display gardens that showcase native plants and conservation techniques for backyard habitats.
Mark studied landscape architecture at West Virginia University and is a frequent speaker at seminars and garden shows for contractors and homeowners alike. He has been a Penn State Master Gardener and is a founding member of the Master Gardener program’s Mid-Atlantic Ecological Landscapes [MAEScapes] project.
Splash Supply Company now helps maintain more than 100 ponds and waterfalls around York, Pennsylvania; hosts one of the largest annual contractor networking and training events in the Mid-Atlantic; and offers frequent pond maintenance classes for contractors and do-it-yourselfers.
