Royal Pickerel is a stunning specimen with striking colors.

Pickerel in general – including Royal Pickerel and standard Pickerel Rush – are some of the most popular plants for water gardens in the United States. Whereas standard Pickerel only grows to 2 to 3 feet tall, Royal Pickerel can climb to a height of 4 to 5 feet.

Royal Pickerel’s blooms match its size. Its gorgeous lavendar flowers grow to 4 to 6 inches tall and sit atop gorgeous upright green stems. They attract bees and butterflies like crazy, adding even more color to your garden.

Royal Pickerel craves full sun and works well in just about any body of water large enough to contain it. (For water gardeners, we recommend a pond of at least 40 square feet.) It thrives in shallow water – 3 to 6 inches deep – but can also do well submerged as far as 1 to 3 feet.

Looking for a companion plant? Royal Pickerel pairs well with gorgeous pink or red Hibiscus flowers, as well as beautifully striped Variegated Sweet Flag.
