Cephalanthus occidentalis

This moisture-loving bush has pretty green leaves set against red-tinged stems. The “buttons” on buttonbush emerge in summer, when the plant shows off its unusual spherical flowers that look like little white pin cushions. Buttonbush is deciduous, meaning it loses its leaves in the winter and regains them in the spring.
